Tata Steel for Asia 2016

Many of the team here at Bell Publishing have now returned from their summer holidays and our attentions turn towards the 2016 instalment of Asia CanTech.

The event, which takes place on 7-9 November in Kuala Lumpur, can now boast of a new keynote speaker in the shape of Tata Steel’s Simone Vooijs, director technical, packaging and downstream operations. This gives the event further gravitas as Simone was certainly one of the highlight at this year’s Euro CanTech. Her speech will focus on ‘Protact, the laminated steel offering for the can making industry’.

In addition to Vooijs, other keynote speakers confirmed for the event include Crown’s new president Robert H. Bourque Jr. and Kian Joo’s group chief financial officer, Ooi Teik Huat. It promises to be a terrific event and we will soon be making a few announcements with regards to our ‘Candid Forum’, which proved to be highly popular in Berlin for Euro CanTech.

It was a pleasure to visit Carnaud Metalbox this week for their open day. It was fascinating to see their plans for the future and celebrating engineering success including their 100th 3400 Die Necker in July 2016. With around eight apprentices employed every year, it was great to see the investment CMB has in the future of British engineering. There will be a round-up of the day in the September issue of CanTech.

Inside this issue, we assess the can making industry’s inaugural ‘25 Most Valuable People within the can making industry’. I hope this will be something the trade can passionately debate year-on-year. I’m sure there will be some surprises on the list! Elsewhere there is a report from Vladislav Vorotnikov on Kazakhstan and the latest on shaping and embossing from Evert van de Weg.

From there on, we’ll be turning our attention to our ‘Supplier Profile’ issue for September.

Enjoy the rest of your week.
