Judgement day

It’s now less than two weeks until Metpack, where I’ll be looking forward to visiting the show for the first time. It’s going to be a terrific opportunity to see new product innovations, catch-up with industry colleagues and continue my industry learning process.

It has also been an honour to be selected as a judge for the Metpack Innovations Awards. I hope this role will give our readers the chance to learn more about the latest innovations going on within the trade, as we’ll be blogging live from the event. From first glimpse, it looks like a strong range of entries, so I’m sure we the judges will have our work cut out.

Politically, we live in interesting times, what with the election of Donald Trump in the US and the UK’s decision to leave the European Union dominating current affairs last year. It looks like being a similarly turbulent year with the UK’s prime minister Theresa May calling a snap general election. It appears the aim here is to try and increase her mandate to govern and provide a smoother process to implement Brexit strategy with the rest of Europe. In a timely fashion, this month we are lucky to have an article from Nicole Sykes, senior policy adviser in the CBI EU Negotiations Team, who examines the implications of triggering Article 50 and how this will impact on business for companies within the Eurozone. For those trading in Europe, it makes for an interesting read.

Elsewhere, we cover the latest market trends from Russia, bring you information about Cazander’s new trading app and your essential guide to IMDA. This will be hitting desks towards the end of next week.

Have a great week
