Ball turns to Applied for inspection systems

Can maker Ball has installed aluminium bottle inspection stations at its Colorado plant in the US.

Applied Vision, a leading provider of machine vision inspection systems for the container manufacturing industry, provided the inspection stations.

Ball is increasing investment in its Alumi-Tek bottle production in an effort to meet strong customer demand in North America. This installation ensures that Ball can reliably and accurately inspect the popular lightweight, re-closable, recyclable aluminium bottles.

The highly sophisticated bottle-shaped container that emerges from a single piece of aluminium might experience infrequent functional defects during the manufacturing process.  These defects can be detected by Applied Vision’s inspection systems, preventing the potential compromise of contents or product.

Applied Vision systems have been used to inspect Alumi-Tek bottles in Ball’s Monticello, Indiana, plant since 2006 when the company engineered a novel imaging concept to pinpoint defects on the bottle’s particularly complex thread and curl areas.
