Jaws crushed can re-released

A can of beer famously crushed in the classic film Jaws has been temporarily re-released.

Made by the US-based Narragansett brewery the cans were immortalised in the 1975 Oscar winning movie.

Before hunting the shark captain Sam Quint, the shark hunter played by the late Robert Shaw, crushes a can of Gansett lager with one hand to intimidate the oceanographer, Matt Hooper played by Richard Dreyfuss.

Of course around 40 years ago when the film was released cans were made with much more metal and the feat was therefore much more impressive than it would be with today’s lighter tins.

The promotion was designed to co-incide with August’s Shark Week and honoured Robert Shaw who played Quint and would have been 86 this month.

The cans design depicts a ship and a red diagonal stripe and will be available inside standard 30 packs, 18 packs and 12 packs at participating retailers in the US.
