Can Manufacturers Institute appoints Jim Peterson as chairman

The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) has elected Jim Peterson, senior vice president and chief operating officer of food and aerosol packaging at Ball Corporation, as its new chairman.

Peterson succeeds Tom Snyder, president of Silgan Containers. Peterson joined Ball Corporation in 2006. He previously held the positions of director of marketing of North American Ball packaging products, as well as vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, before becoming senior vice president in 2015.

Peterson said: “I look forward to making sure the can manufacturing industry’s premier association continues to protect and promote the industry, while advocating the benefits of this superior package.”

CMI president Robert Budway, added: “Under Peterson’s leadership, CMI will continue to provide a forum for members to advocate common industry positions to legislative and regulatory agencies that have activities that impact the metal can market.”

Along with his CMI appointment, Peterson is a member of various boards, including Consumer Safety Products Association and National Association of Manufacturers.
