Crown has already exceeded one of its five-year strategy goals to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The goals were included as part of the company’s submission to the CDP’s (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) climate change programme in 2016.

As of 31 December 2016, Crown has reduced energy consumption by 5.3% per billion standard units. Absolute energy consumption has decreased by 1.3% while the company increased production by over 4.2%.

The company has also reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 6.25% per billion standard units.

Timothy J. Donahue, president and chief executive officer of Crown said: “We are extremely proud of our progress towards our 2020 sustainability goals.

“Even as demand for metal packaging has continued to increase and we have grown our global footprint to best support our regional and international customers, we have reduced our overall energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.”
