Ball expands global disaster relief support with IFRC grant

Ball Corporation has announced a $300,000 grant to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to expand its support of disaster preparedness and relief efforts globally through its philanthropic arm – The Ball Foundation.

The grant will support the work of 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including the American Red Cross, empowered by a network of more than 17 million volunteers worldwide.

Chris Chavez, executive director of The Ball Foundation, said: “Ball operates in more than 100 locations in 34 countries and we are proud to partner with the IFRC to ensure that these communities and others are prepared if they are affected by disasters.

“By working together with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Ball and its employees will be able to make a difference in people’s lives when they need it the most.”

Ball Corporation and The Ball Foundation have contributed nearly $2 million in cash and in-kind donations to Red Cross efforts over the past two years. In 2017, Ball also has partnered with several customers to donate millions of cans of clean drinking water for disaster relief victims in North America and Mexico.

Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, IFRC’s under secretary general for partnerships, commented: “The Ball Foundation’s contribution comes at a critical time when we are responding to an increasing number of disasters and health emergencies around the world.

“We are very grateful for The Ball Foundation’s generous support in helping us meet the needs and improving the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people.”
