Ball reports strong first quarter results
US based Ball Corporation has seen a dramatic increase in packaging sales in the first quarter of 2011. Sales, including Ball’s aerospace business, increased to US$2.01 billion comapred with the same quarter of 2010, at $1.82bn.

Crown’s first-quarter results lifted by global beverage can sales
Leading can maker Crown has reported first quarter sales of US$1.88 billion, an increase of 5.9% compared with the same period in 2010. Beverage can sales were up in the Americas region, reaching $540m, while in Europe sales were up to $340m compared to £314m during the same period in 2010.
Conference line-up revealed
The lineup for this year’s Metpack Conference has been revealed. Focusing on Modern Can Technology, the conference will feature eight speakers who will be presenting the latest research results and new manufacturing technologies all relating to metal packaging in 2011.
Rexam to build new can plant in Brazil
Rexam has announced that it will build a new beverage can plant close to the city of Belem, Northern Brazil. The plant will have a capacity of 1.2 billion cans and is expected to be operational by mid 2012.
New appointments at Novelis
Aluminium producer Novelis has announced a number of senior management appointments in an effort to accelerate its global integration strategy. These appointments include the creation of global roles in the areas of manufacturing excellence and recycling, as well as global product line management positions.
Ball makes further sustainability improvements
Can making giant Ball Corporation has been recognised for its progress on sustainability. The company has reduced its global energy use by two per cent and waste-to-landfill by six per cent.
