Crown expands beverage can production in Vietnam

University students encouraged to recycle
A recycling initiative developed by Every Can Counts is encouraging students to recycle beverage cans at universities – in return for the opportunity to watch films. Known as the Can Film Festival, the initiative has been developed in conjunction with the National Union of Students, and rewards students with the opportunity to watch films, for free, by bringing along empty beverage cans to be recycled.
Conway confident as beverage can sales help improve Crown’s results
The chief executive of can making company Crown expects a “busy and promising” 2011 following the release of its final year results. Higher unit sales of beverage and food cans worldwide helped to improve margins at the company with beverage can sales unit volumes rising 13% and food can volumes up 5% in the fourth quarter.
Ball reports strong full-year results
Ball Corporation has reported an increase in sales in its results for 2010 – thanks in part to double-digit volume growth in China and Brazil. The company’s net earnings from continuing operations were $542.9 million, on sales of $7.6 billion, compared to $390.1 million, on sales of $6.7 billion in 2009.
Rexam increases production at Egyptian plant
Rexam has converted lines at its Egyptian beverage can plant from steel to aluminium after customers started to show a growing preference for aluminium. The company has also increased production capacity in order to meet customer demand.
Bericap moves into Asia
German beverage closures manufacturer, Bericap, has opened a production facility in Singapore. The plant will provide a direct service to customers in the ASEAN-zone, which was up until now served by a sales office and deliveries from Bericap China and other Bericap facilities.
Alcoa CEO maintains positive outlook after strong fourth quarter
Packaging materials supplier Alcoa has revealed strong fourth quarter results. The company, which is the world’s leading producer of primary aluminium, has revealed income from continuing operations of $258 million (€196.1m).
Berlin Packaging buys Continental Packaging Solutions
Berlin Packaging, a leading supplier of plastic, glass, and metal containers and closures, has announced the acquisition of Chicago-based Continental Packaging Solutions. The company says the transaction is designed to expand the resources available to customers for fast and expert service and cost-effective rigid packaging.
