Printing technology showcased at DivFood open day

Nampak DivFood, South Africa’s leading metal packaging manufacturer, recently showcased its new five-colour Crabtree FastReady printing line during an open day for customers at its Vanderbijlpark can making plant.

The company’s newly installed End-o-mat production line for can end making was also showcased on the day.

Nampak DivFood is a manufacturer of food, aerosol, general line cans and decorative tinware.

William Mkhabela, Nampak DivFood Vanderbijlpark’s general manager, opened by welcoming customers such as Clover, L’Oreal, Kraft Foods and Tiger Brands. The goal of the day was to embrace innovation, showcase the new printing technology and personally give customers a feel for where DivFood is headed as a business.

Crabtree UK, a leading supplier of FastReady metal print technology, supplied the new five-deck printing line with in-line varnish capability.

The printing line is complemented by Kemtek CTP (Computer To Plate) pre-press technology, which cuts five steps of artwork initiation down to just two. As a result of its new technology, Nampak DivFood estimates that new design lead times could be reduced by as much as eight weeks in certain cases.

Crabtree UK’s director for capital equipment, John McHugh, was in attendance and spoke highly of Nampak DivFood’s commitment to improved service and product delivery. He said: “The new printing line has three critical objectives, namely reduction in delivery times, production of better quality and reduction in costs. “Nampak DivFood has the equipment, the technology and the enthusiasm to break boundaries in metal packaging, and they are going to great lengths to achieve this for their customers. Metal is a good packaging material and the new line is a great addition to this already great product.”
