Limited edition can features artist’s design

A tinplate canister designed by artist Michelangelo Pistoletto is the latest to adorn the Illycaffè range of Illy Art ceramic cups and limited edition cans.

The Italian-based premium coffee blender has been producing collectibles for almost 20 years. Some have featured the work of celebrated artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, David Byrne, Louise Bourgeois, Jeff Koons, Pedro Almodóvar, and Julian Schnabel.

Each illy Art Collection can showcases a miniature masterpiece.

The collection was first started in 1992, stemming from the idea that art can enter the lives of people through a small object of daily use. After more than 70 series of collectors’ cups were decorated by major international artists and young talents, the collection was extended to coffee cans in 2006.

The decoration “Energie Love Difference” adorns the illy Art Collection can which became available from March 2011. It was created by Michelangelo Pistoletto, winner of the Leone d’Oro for lifetime achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2003 and founder of the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella.

Love Difference is an artistic movement promoted by the artist. Its aim is to bring together, around the regions facing onto the Mediterranean Sea, people and institutions interested in creating new outlooks reaching beyond the conflict between different cultures. Here the Mediterranean is represented by a mirror, to symbolize the liquid surface merging the energies of the countries on its shores.

Michelangelo Pistoletto was born in Biella in 1933. He first made a name for himself on the international art scene in the early 1960s with his mirror paintings.
