Unilever and Tubex team up to create eco-friendly aerosol can

Unilever has teamed up with Tubex to develop and manufacture its eco-friendly antiperspirant, Rexona Recycled Refreshed. The aerosol can consists of a patented aluminium alloy and 25% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.
The use of alloy and slight change of shape means that Rexona Recycled Refreshed is 14% lighter than its predecessor. This substantial weight reduction was the result of the joint development of Unilever, Tubex and the slug supplier Neuman Aluminium.
Usually a can is fully lacquered inside, however the Rexona Recycled Refreshed is only partially (50%) lacquered, which saves additional resources. Standard lacquers emit VOC when applied. To forego the use of VOC, Unilever chose to use internal powder coating instead. Tubex was the first can manufacturer in the industry to apply internal powder coating and has advanced experience working with completely VOC-free lacquer. To meet Tubex sustainability standards of aerosol can manufacturing, the overspray of the powder coating is reused. Leo Werdich, Tubex managing director, commented: “Alloy, use of PCR, partially internal lacquered, internal powder coating and 14% lighter than its predecessor – this can is sustainability at its best!”
The aerosol can is also infinitely recyclable.
