Supplier excellence recognised by Rexam
Rexam Beverage Can Europe & Asia recently held its annual supplier awards ceremony in the UK.
The awards recognised supplier excellence throughout 2010 and took place at Sopwell House in St Albans. More than 100 guests, including 40 suppliers, attended the event.
Four awards were given on the night, in the areas of cost, quality, supply and the prestigious supplier of the year, which was won by tooling manufacturer Sandvik. To gain a full insight into their performances, all suppliers were judged on the feedback gathered from Rexam’s plants, management attitudes and a review of the year’s performance.
Richard Downes, VP of supply chain and IM, Rexam Beverage Can Europe & Asia, said: “We work hard within Rexam to achieve operational excellence in all parts of our supply chain, and this is not something we can do alone. These awards allow us to recognise those who have helped us to achieve this goal, not only making business easy, but maintaining a high level of delivery throughout the year.”
The companies in bold were the award winners:
Supply award: UTE & JC – Performed a total of 18,000 loads in 2010 with only 16 complaints, supporting Rexam with deliveries out of the UK to Spain and France.
Quality award: Rasselstein – Maintained full supply to Rexam’s plants despite a number of challenges and achieved the best ever quality performance from a metal supplier.
Cost award: Wheels Logistics – Have hit their cost reduction target since they were introduced to the programme in 2005, have implemented innovative new vehicle designs allowing Rexam to increase capacity per vehicle and have utilised rail more, helping Rexam to reduce cost and environmental impact.
Supplier of the year award: Sandvik – The management approach is easy to work with, open and pro-active, showing real commitment to continuous improvement and have fully embraced the supplier partnership with Rexam.
Flemming Hviid, president of Sandvik, was present on the night to accept the supplier of the year award. He said: “We have worked hard throughout the year to reduce our costs and make our service as reliable as possible. We have a good relationship with Rexam, and receiving this award shows that our hard work and commitment has been truly appreciated.”
