Roeslein introduces 3D laser scanning

Roeslein has a new tool in its arsenal with the addition of 3D Laser Scanning technology. This service allows customers to gain an accurate digital representation of their project on a large or small scale with the use of FARO Laser Scanner Focus technology.

The firm’s engineers are able to provide 3D documentation of an entire plant or a single skid with point cloud data output that is viewable on a variety of software platforms and has the ability to display quick and accurate 3D digital color images.

In a production or process plant environment, there are oftentimes a multitude of changes that take place over the lifetime of a plant and many plants are without an accurate model or drawing of the current layout. This causes problems with future changes and upgrades due to the potential conflicts that arise when new equipment or support structure is to be installed in an undocumented area of the plant.

Roeslein works to alleviate these conflicts by scanning the entire plant and pulling the resulting point clouds into drafting software, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D or Navisworks, and is able to combine them with planned additions to ensure that the project flows smoothly from concept through completion.

Other benefits offered by the 3D Laser Scanning are accurate as-built existing conditions for plant modifications, determining existing site dimensions without the need of tape measures or survey equipment, and tie-ins with existing facilities.
