Can sales increase in Europe
Beverage can sales increased by 6% in Europe during the first half of 2011 compared with the same period of 2010, according to industry association Beverage Can Makers Europe. Soft drinks were the main benefactors of the good weather conditions with a healthy increase in sales of 8% on the comparable period in the first half of 2010.
New ‘handy can’ size from Ball
A new compact can has been launched by Ball Packaging Europe. Pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi are the first drinks to be sold in the new 25cl format in the UK. The shorter and more compact 25cl can format is designed to stand out from the normal and attract attention at the point of sale.
Multipack sales help drive shipment growth
Can Makers, the body representing the UK manufacturers of beer and carbonated soft drinks cans, has revealed that carbonated soft drink can shipments were up 8%, with 186 million more units shipped in the first half of 2011 compared with 2010.
European demand drives Rexam’s results
Rexam is considering options for capital expenditure opportunities in both Finland and Russia following the release of the company’s half-year results. The company reported a 19% increase in underlying pre-tax profits to £236m for the first half of 2011.
