Tata Tinplate (a subsidiary of Tata Steel, listed as Tinplate Company India), has announced plans to nearly double capacity at its tinplate line in Jamshedpur, India, by 2025 following strong demand for its products and a resurgence of canned food in particular.

Currently, the company’s line has a capacity of some 379,000 tonnes of tinplate and tin-free steel; this will be expanded by 300,000 tonnes at a capital expenditure of Rs 2,254 crore.

TCIL’s three-year expansion project will begin in 2022, and will see the capacity at Jamshedpur rise to 679,000 tonnes. Following this, TCIL says it aims to reach a capacity of 1 million tonnes by 2030.
