Celebrating 25 years at Asia CanTech
As customary, Asia CanTech launched with its Monday afternoon tabletop session, with an opportunity to conduct business in a relaxed setting. The highlight on Monday was the boat party to celebrate 25 years of CanTech International. Setting sail along the Chao Phraya river, the boat was at full capacity – so on behalf of the team, thanks very much for your support. We had a lovely evening, and I hope you did too.
The highlight of the evening was Neil McRitchie regaling the audience about the story of how CanTech in its conception was bankrolled over a loan which the bank manager assumed was for a new car!
On day two the conference schedule started with keynote speaker, Yufei Chen, vice president, ORG Packaging. Chen commented on the difficulties and solutions for the Chinese metal packaging market. Chen explained some of the innovations from the Chinese company, which includes QR codes on its IOT tab, and also its 750ml juice can which is a combination of metal and PET.
Elsewhere, there were a variety of presentations from Applied Vision, Prime Controls, Xiamen Baofeng and Stolle amongst others. There will be a review of the conference schedule in the next issue of CanTech, and also in a blog later this week.
The highlight for me was the Candid Forum, which saw Bruce Jones, Chris McKenzie and Bob Gary take to the stage to debate a number of pertinent issues within the industry. The event provided some healthy debate, including great interaction from the audience (particularly an animated Jack Knight!). This feature will return for Euro CanTech, so please advise on any suggestions as to how we can improve the Forum.
Day one concluded with our Asia CanTech Gala Dinner. The event initially started with a moment’s silence to commemorate those who have passed away during the previous 12 months, which was respectfully observed. The highlight of the dinner was of course, the Asia CanTech Awards. The Supreme Can Maker Award was scooped by Next Can Innovation Co for its Birdy can.
