A supplier profile

We have just put the finishing touches to our 2018 Supplier Profile Issue.

This year it’s a bumper 108-page issue, so it has certainly kept us busy this summer. There is no shortage of information, with profiles from companies – it really is essential reading for those of you within the metal packaging industry.

We will also shortly be releasing our media pack for 2019, but please do get in touch if there is anything editorially you would like to see included for 2018.

A piece of news that has caught Can Man’s eye this month has been the UK government’s plans to ban the sale of energy drinks for anyone under the age of 18, due to the fact that they are damaging children’s health, according to the prime minister, Theresa May.

We have the issue of food banks, Brexit, the economy and many other pressing issues to address, but the government decide to go after the drinks market. I understand the link to high sugar content and obesity, but banning something is just a high level of over zealousness don’t you think?

Here is a list of things you can legally do as a 16-year-old:

  • Get married or register a civil partnership with consent
  • Drive a moped or invalid carriage
  • Consent to sexual activity with others aged 16 and over
  • Drink wine/beer with a meal if accompanied by someone over 18
  • Join the Armed Forces with parental consent
  • Register as a blood donor
  • Change name by deed poll
  • Join a trade union.

However, buying canned energy drink will still be out of bounds to 16 and 17 year olds; these sort of inconsistencies really grind my gears. It should be canned drinks for everyone!
