Cans and wine – what’s not to like?

It’s great to see the inaugural International Canned Wine competition take place recently in California, US. Although taking place in the US, Wines from the US, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and England competed in the event.

While Californian producers featured heavily on the winners list, many of the 37 gold medals went to wines from less prominent regions. Benmarl Winery of New York and Leelanau Cellars from Michigan took home three gold medals each, while Insomnia Wines won three golds and the Best of Show Red Wine for its California Pinot Noir. Sans Wine Co. 2017 Rutherford Napa Valley Riesling was awarded Best of Show White Wine.

It’s refreshing to see the popularity of canned wine honoured with an international competition, and the event has already been scheduled for next year. I’ll raise a glass to that.

Elsewhere, Richard Moore has been confirmed to appear as a panellist for this year’s Asia CanTech. For those of you who don’t know Richard, he was previously chief corporate development officer for Ardagh Group, with responsibility for M&A and R&D, and CEO of Metal Asia Pacific. He left Ardagh in 2014 to set up his own company, RMRM Consultancy Limited, based in Hong Kong. Moore is also a board director of Suzhou SLAC.

The event is hotting up nicely, so be sure to get yourselves registered
