Drapers Hall glitters for another MPMA Annual Dinner

Once again CanTech International was in attendance at the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA) annual dinner on Friday 15 November, held at Drapers Hall in London.

Despite having been there before, I still felt the awe of this building, its spectacular artwork, golden detailed ceiling, coats of armour and accents of the Royal Family all around. I’ve never known myself to look up as much as I do when I enter this building!

While waiting to attend the dinner, we had the option to have our photographs taken by Paul Brown. This year though, the surrounding artwork was a bit different to 2023. I’m not sure if you all remember the controversial piece unveiled of King Charles last year, by Jonathan Yeo (right). This painting was there right above our heads, and opinions showed that the artwork continues to leave people divided. I’m still on the fence!

As always, the dinner and company were exquisite. We shared a meal with members of Team Tala, key personnel from the MPMA and I also finally had the chance to meet the wonderful Nicola Jones from Tata Steel UK.

At the end of the dinner, Aidan Ruddock, chair of the MPMA, gave thanks to Alex Rivers & I in his speech (much appreciated), as well as announcing the winner for the MPMA’s Best in Metal Award. The winner was Roberts Metal Packaging for its Daisy Drops by Marc Jacobs aluminium tins. There was also a second award given out to an inspirational woman who has given 40 years’ service to the MPMA – congratulations to Debbie Clements, who is clearly an integral part of the MPMA.

CanTech is looking forward to continuing the work with the MPMA, having the association’s director and chief executive, Jason Galley join us as a keynote speaker at CanTech the Grand Tour in 130 days!

Thank you again to the MPMA for our invitation and we continue to support & assist the industry in spreading the great work the metal packaging industry does.
