Canned glory

Last week marked my first hike up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in Wales.
Having always had an April break somewhere in the countryside, this year was slightly different in that my husband & I set off the week of the Bank Holiday rather than before, and as it turns out, that was the best decision weather-wise. Storm Dave had thankfully passed by the time we arrived; we were welcomed by blue skies and “T-Shirt temperature”!
Our hike up to Snowdon was then cemented for Wednesday, and of course we had to take a few cans with us to stay hydrated, alongside our stainless steel water bottles.
The journey was tough going – endurance isn’t my strong point – but the breathtaking views more than made up for it. The best part for this metal package fan was that, even after the four hours it took us to reach the summit of the mountain, queue to get our photo at the trig point and then come a third of the way back down, the cans in our backpacks were still mercifully cool!
As we came to our rest point, I got out my sparkling soda can for a quick photoshoot – see the photo above – and the husband even joined in with his energy drink. Here’s his entry into CanTech‘s canned photos hall of fame:

Funnily enough, not as many people look at you strangely taking a photo of cans when you’ve just climbed down a mountain as they do in everyday life. Everyone’s just focusing on catching their breath and fuelling up for the return journey. They might look at you with envy, though, if they haven’t brought their own cans.
Though I wouldn’t consider myself a die-hard mountaineer, having now completed both the third-tallest (Scafell Pike) and second-tallest (Snowdon) mountains in the UK, there’s only one more option left… Perhaps around this time next year there will be a Ben Nevis-themed blog?
