Beer in a can

The mainstream media, at least in the UK and the US, seems to have been packed with opinion pieces over the past few weeks praising canned beer.

One columnist in the UK’s Independent newspaper said that anyone who believed beer out of a glass bottle was better than a can was a “snob.”

In the UK lager in a can is well established and the country out drinks its European neighbours whe it comes to cans, but sales are according to most recent statistics, starting to plateau.

However, the real ale market continues to grow year on year in Britain but it mostly sells its products through pubs or in bottles.

In the US, canning is much more popular and a reasonably new phenomenon is the mobile canner (see August/July CanTech International issue).

Perhaps the UK’s smaller brewers could soon be following suit?
