The restaurant that ‘can’

Canned fish can sometimes be viewed as a slightly lower end product in certain countries. A functional product for that tuna mayonnaise sandwich or a few sardines on toast for a quick snack, but one restaurant pop-up in London’s Soho has been making canned fish ‘sexy’ for the past six months.
The idea was hit upon by the team at AL_A, an award winning design and architecture studio, while designing a new cultural centre in Lisbon. It started as a lunch in Portugal and ended up as a pop-up restaurant in the heart of Europe’s capital.
The restaurant serves the world’s best and most exclusive tinned seafood and has been a hit with the critics around the world, serving everything from the finest sardines to Carelian caviar (£45 for 30g).
The Economist described Tincan as ‘a joyful paean to tinned seafood of every kind’.
Their tenure in London finishes on 23rd December, with the next stop taking the team across the pond to New York City in 2015.
It is a real treat to see a venture that celebrates the beauty, versatility and quality of canned seafood. Long may it continue!
