A tricky little problem

Yesterday I was thinking about my next blog entry and the topic thereof, and it happened to be lunch time. Now, I’m sure many of you are as dedicated to eating canned foods as I am, and to that end it so happened that I was looking forward to a can of sardines to keep me going into the afternoon.

Picture the scene and it may sound familiar. You look at your can of fish and you see that it is an easy open end – such is commonplace. Immediately thoughts turn to the colour of your shirt, at least in my case they do. Why? You may ask. Well, the reason for this concern for fabric colour is that it is almost certainly going to be the case that I will get to the very end of the travel of this time saving device and as it becomes detached from the can itself it will deposit a large smattering of the contents across my desk and onto the front of my shirt.

Is it just me, or is this a common problem? And why does it only happen with foodstuffs within that are never going to be removed with conventional washing powders?

My question to you, the industry professionals, is how can this perceived problem of mine be tackled? Is there a way this can be dealt with that will enable me to open a can of fish without first placing a splash guard around the perimeter? Or am I just being too damn whiny about the whole affair?

In a previous blog I spoke about the inconvenience of having to use a can opener on a can of baked beans. Perhaps I spoke too soon about the demise of this trusty device, as at least it can be guaranteed to be splatter free, which in turn will almost certainly save on laundry bills!
