Anchoring down safety and ease

Fernando Fuentes, owner of the patented AnchorEOE (easy open end), answers some quick-fire questions about the product’s development and its future

What sets this easy open end apart from others in the market?

The difference lies in the innovative tab: its anchor shaped design sets it apart as unique in the market, providing significant advantages over the current standard. The ability to use two fingers without size limitations in opening AnchorEOE ensures a secure operation, thereby reducing the risk of cuts resulting from improper lid opening practices.

With AnchorEOE, the effort required to open the EOE is reduced by up to 50 per cent, and the stability it provides when removing the paneling ensures a controlled and safe opening by the user, eliminating any risk of injuries.

What were the main drivers for creating the AnchorEOE?

The primary reasons include lack of security: the traditional tab lacks100per cent assurance for the end consumer, leading to cuts and insecurity in the final user; and the abbsence of innovation in this domain: the traditional easy-open-end tab has undergone no evolution since its inception. It was high time for a redesign addressing the issues it poses.

What size/type of can is the end most suited to?

AnchorEOE is valid for all EOE formats regardless of size or material (aluminium or tinplate). Its utility is particularly highlighted in instances where there is a higher risk or greater difficulty in opening, such as with rectangular formats. However, it represents an improvement in lid opening across all formats, with its impact being especially significant in those that pose greater risks.

How has the response been from manufacturers since the launch?

The response has been remarkable. We have received interest from canners, tin manufacturers, and supermarket chains eagerly awaiting samples. While we are still in the prototype phase, we aim to progress swiftly and have the product launched in the market by the year 2024. Currently, we are in discussions with four tin manufacturing companies to produce AnchorEOE.

However, we are in the initial stages of the project and are working diligently to minimise timelines. vVe remain open to tin manufacturing companies interested in joining us to produce AnchorEOE, enabling us to cover all format variations and meet the anticipated high international demand.

Can you discuss any business clients and the type of cans they have purchased the AnchorEOE for?

At this time, we are unable to disclose specific names as we are still in the negotiation phase with potential partners. We anticipate providing them with the first actual samples this summer. The requested formats include round lids (ranging from 052 to 0153) and rectangular lids (1/ 4 club). Each client has specific requirements, and they recognise the benefits of AnchorEOE based on their individual challenges.

Could you explain the patent licensing? Acquiring the patent license for AnchorEOE enables independent manufacturing and marketing of AnchorEOE to clients. With a fixed monthly fee, you will have 100 per cent freedom to manufacture and market AnchorEOE.
