This issue is packed with news, features, products and equipment.

It contains a four page contains review of Euro CanTech (see page 14) and looks at how the three-piece can market, in particular, is under attack from plastic alternatives (see page 34).

In the UK lager in a can is well established and the country out drinks its European neighbours with cans, but sales are, according to most recent statistics, starting to plateau. However the real ale market, or craft beer in the US, continues to grow year on year in Britain but it mostly sells its products through pubs or in bottles. In the US, canning is much more popular and a reasonably new phenomenon is the mobile canner (see page 22). Perhaps the UK’s craft brewers could soon be following suit?

The biggest hurdle for the can industry to clear is the wine market (see page 38). Some in that sector are still angry about the proliferation of screw caps over corks – let alone aluminium bottles and cans – and it’s another level of snobbery that needs to be overcome. Following that we’ve also got great articles on the aluminium bottle market (see page 26) and a look at a rather interesting cap maker from the US (see page 30).

Enjoy this joint summer issue, and don’t forget the next issue is the Supplier Profile edition.
