It’s with deep sadness and a renewed sense of loss that we announce the death of David Andrew McEachern after a five-and-a-half-year battle with frontotemporal dementia.

David is survived by his two sons Charles Andrew McEachern and Joseph Peter McEachern, their mother, Catharine Fyfe, and sisters Mary, Laurie, Susan Elizabeth McEachern, and Martha Jane Baker. He is predeceased by his parents David Rothwell McEachern and Muriel Hansen McEachern.

David’s love of life was evident to all who knew him; he loved to work and he loved to play. He was very successfully introduced to his life’s work by his mentor Ted D. Wright, and he retained the business name of T.D. Wright after he purchased the business from Ted as a tribute to this very formative relationship.

David took great pleasure in running a small business; he loved the people he worked with and a mandatory tour of the shop included introductions to every person, machine, and the projects that were underway (ear plugs provided). He also loved to travel and felt fortunate that this was one of the requirements of his working life.

Bicycles, boats, motorcycles and his family rounded off the other great pleasures in his life. He was extremely fond of his getaway in Manzanita, Oregon and went to great effort to ensure that others had the pleasure of this personal piece of paradise.

David was generous and caring towards his friends, colleagues and family and sincerely enjoyed his times with the friends he had had since high school, which included canoe trips, northern cabin getaways, famously dangerous motorcycle trips and regular ‘guys only’ get-togethers.

Tragically, just as David was thinking of an enjoyable future of semi-retirement, he was struck by an obscure, rare and incurable disease. Through the many steps and stages of this disease, David was strong, thankful for the support of his family and friends and kind to his caretakers.

He will always remain in our hearts as a kind, engaged and vital presence.
