Sovereign decorator installed in Nigeria

Intercan’s first eight-colour Sovereign decorator is now on-line at a plant operated by Alucan in Nigeria.

Roeslein carried out the installation and commissioning is due in the next month or so. A second decorator is due to be installed soon.

The Sovereign decorator is offered in six and eight colour options with production speeds of up to 2,200cpm together with a range of additional features for high-definition printing, quick changeovers and ease-of-use.

Intercan managing director Peter Strode said: “The very first Sovereign was installed in the Middle East five years ago. The latest version has taken two years from concept to supply. There is definitely a market in the future for a number of these machines.”

After manufacturing a one off six-colour decorator Intercan approached CarnaudMetalbox Engineering to help them take the project forward.

“CMbE have been able to implement and take forward jointly, our designs and ideas much quicker and efficiently due to their resource availability,” adds Strode.

Intercan identifed a gap in the market for a new decorator. “Customer requests were the main instigator, added with Intercan’s continual efforts to improve and add to the product choice in the industry,” notes Strode. “Advantages are mainly revolving around quality and consistency due to new patented inker technology and spindle disc.”

The company has received interest from China and Japan and Strode believes that innovations such as the Sovereign decorator are important for the industry.

“They haven’t been that available in can printing and we are pleased to be part of an ever increasing innovative approach,” he explains.
