Tubex receives two WorldStar Awards

Tubex has been awarded with two WorldStar trophies for its aerosol cans: Unilever Dove Men & Care and Beiersdorf Body Mousse. The WorldStar Packaging Award is the pre-eminent international award in packaging.

Tubex’s award-winning cans focus on different aspects in can manufacturing.

Beiersdorf Body Mousse’s extremely smooth yet unusual conical shape was obtained by using spline technology, a technique used to create very smooth transitions and that avoids shadowing on the can’s surface. Everything from drawing to the tool setting had to be precisely aligned in order to get a perfect can, says Tubex. It reportedly required special attention to detail to create the round brand NIVEA logo on this can. The brand logo was applied to the cylindrical can and at that stage, the logo appeared irregular and pre-distorted; only after the horizontal and vertical shaping of the can did the brand logo look circular.

The Unilever Dove Men & Care can is nearly 20% lighter than the previous standard can. Tubex says this weight reduction was achieved by slightly modifying the shape of the can and the use of a patented new alloy. To make sure the can arrived safe at its destination, Tubex changed from packing in bundles to layer wide packaging. The advantages of this are that 15% more cans fit on a pallet, 15% more cans fit on a truck and 15% less storage space is needed.

“The use of this patented alloy gives us exciting possibilities in terms of weight reduction and the use of real PCR in the future at the same time,” explained Leo Werdich, MD of Tubex Holding.

The award wins place Tubex as one of the leading can manufacturers in the world in terms of print and shape but also in sustainability and innovative solutions in can manufacturing.
