Trivium Packaging has published a new white paper discussing the benefits of metal packaging when it comes to food.

The document details how metal has the properties to Protect, Promote and Preserve: Protect (safeguard contents from external elements and shocks), Promote (serve as platform for brand differentiation and consumer messaging), and Preserve (retain natural resources in closed loops/systems).

It addresses the problem of food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, around one-third of global food production – approximately 1.3 billion tonnes – is lost or goes to waste each year. Within the European Union, around 88 million tonnes of food waste – the equivalent of 20% of total food production – are generated annually. In the United States, food waste is estimated at between 30–40% of the overall food supply. Many have turned to metal cans as allies in their fight against food waste. The white paper explores why.
