Film pays homage to the can industry

Eurocan, a UK supplier of can making machinery, helped supply and set up equipment that was used in the feature film Dark Shadows.
The film is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, a vampire who was imprisoned in a coffin but is unearthed and returns to his mansion now inhabited by his descendants. He soon runs into trouble revitalising the family’s canned fish business, as his jealous ex-flame and imprisoner Angelique Bouchard, played by Eva Green, runs the rival company.
Eurocan was approached by the film’s set decorator Mike Standish and asked to supply and setup equipment for two canneries, which were installed at Pinewood Studios. In the film they are known as the Collins and Angelbay canneries.
“It was fun to do, we made some money out of it and it’s got the can industry into the movies, which is pretty unique,” says Eurocan managing director, John Jenner. “The can industry isn’t often in the limelight. Although the work we did doesn’t feature massively in the film, I think it’s great that there is a movie that features canneries and cans.”
