Eden Foods expands BPA-free cans into 29oz size

US organic products firm Eden Foods has broadened its range of Bisphenol A (BPA) free lined cans into a 29oz size.

The company is now producing six new organic beans in 29oz family-size cans. They are: Black Turtle Beans; Dark Red Kidney Beans; Garbanzo (chick peas); Navy Beans; Pinto Beans and Cannellini (large white kidney) Beans.

Eden’s 15oz, 29oz, and 108oz beans come in custom, Bisphenol A (BPA) free lined cans. All are made at Eden’s Meridian Foods in east central Indiana.

A panel of experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) recently concluded that a ban on BPA was not needed. BPA is a chemical used in the lining of some food and drinks cans.

Despite the views of the experts, every Eden organic bean is packed in custom made steel cans lined with a baked on oleoresinous c-enamel that does not contain the endocrine disrupter chemical BPA. These cans cost 14% more than industry standard cans that do contain BPA.

Eden Foods has been canning organic beans for 20 years. Eden’s 15 and 29oz canned beans ship in display ready corrugated trays that are shrink wrapped in clear film, and are packed at 12 cans per case. The 108oz food service size cans are packed six per case in corrugated boxes.

According to the company, Eden beans are a great source of fibre, protein, complex carbohydrates, potassium, B vitamins, antioxidants, and many efficacious phytonutrients.
