Stolle Machinery is constructing a new facility in Burnley, UK, which is located in Lancashire, about 34 kilometres north of Manchester.

The new 158,000 square foot facility is being built to consolidate Stolle’s Altham UK manufacturing operations that are currently located in five separate buildings. Operations in Carlisle, UK will not be affected. Stolle is investing £20 million (approximately $25m) to fit-out the custom-constructed building.

Stolle’s operations in Burnley will produce the company’s Optimus Can Washers, as well as its E-NCKR Die Necking Systems. The building will include spaces for machine assembly, parts machining and warehousing, field service, die and machinery rebuilds, engineering and administration.

Stolle chief commercial officer, Mike Raderchak, said: “When other can industry suppliers are cutting back, Stolle is investing to better serve our customers in the future. The new Burnley facility includes the latest sustainability features and will allow our operations there to be more efficient.”

Richard Mercer, director of Stolle’s operations in Altham, commented: “We’re delighted to be consolidating our operations into this impressive facility in Burnley, which is exactly what we’ve been looking for. Many of our employees are based in Burnley and the surrounding areas, so it was vital we stayed close to our current home in Altham. The new facility in Frontier Park is ideally located just off the M65, so it made perfect sense.” Mercer said that Stolle intends bring over 200 jobs to the new Burnley facility, including 27 apprentices.

Lukman Patel, chief executive of Burnley Council, added: “It’s fantastic news that such an impressive global brand as Stolle has chosen Burnley to have such a significant strategic base, with Burnley joining Stolle locations such as Colorado and Sau Paulo.”

Stolle plans to move its operations from Altham to the new Burnley facility later this year.
