Eviosys, leader in sustainable packaging, has announced the release of the new, even lighter version of its Horizon metal lid.

In June 2023, Eviosys launched the first version of the Horizon overcap. This is an infinitely recyclable metal overcap specifically designed to cover tins intended for markets such as infant formula, tea, coffee, biscuits, etc.

This new version takes a new step with additional weight reduction, making it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by 33% (compared to the first version). Even lighter (from 15 to 5.8 grams) for a 99 diameter can, Horizon is therefore completely optimised. Horizon facilitates the replacement of plastic lids currently present on certain metal tins intended to be reclosed (biscuits, coffee, infant milk, etc.) with a single-material solution that is entirely in metal from the bottom end to the top and therefore infinitely recyclable.

Legislative developments are increasingly restrictive regarding the use of plastic, as with the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) and additional local regulations across Europe, Eviosys aims to help companies meet these requirements thanks to Horizon.

Metal is in fact one of the only two permanent materials that can be recycled without material degradation. This material helps break the destructive cycle of extraction-incineration and reduce pollution of soils, oceans and wildlife by plastic waste. A survey reveals that 45% of companies plan to use fully recyclable packaging within one to three years and 90% within ten years[1].

The possibility of resealing the tins is popular among consumers who wish to better preserve their products such as biscuits or powders and thus reduce food waste.

Made of metal, this lid is durable and strong, it will not get yellow or deformed over time, unlike plastic overcaps on the market.

“With upcoming regulations requiring a move to 100% recyclable by 2030, it is crucial for companies to find solutions to the end of life of their products by transitioning to recyclable and efficiently recycled materials. This new version of Horizon will allow businesses to make this transition more easily” said Laetitia Durafour, Eviosys marketing director.

Horizon is fully customisable. Through its studio service, Eviosys offers digital printing, the creation of functional prototypes in less than a week and consistency of printing from one factory to another due to advanced colour control technology.
