Sencon releases improved short can sensors

Equipment expert for the metal packaging industry, Sencon, has announced the release of a new sensor control module for its 387 short can sensors.

For nearly five decades, Sencon’s short can sensors have been helping to protect bodymakers in can making plants all over the world. These sensors play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and uninterrupted operation of the line. The company’s 387 short can sensors have played a significant role, and have now been further enhanced with the introduction of a new sensor control module that replaces the need for separate bodymaker control and interface control modules.

This unified control module, the SCM387, simplifies the connection of the 387 short can sensor to the bodymaker’s control system, reducing the number of components that need to be installed, saving time and valuable space in the bodymaker junction box. 

The SCM387 offers some additional features, including system client interface software for configuration and waveform analysis. Users can view and modify the settings, access diagnostic information like sensor waveforms and signal markers, and even opt for ‘static calibration,’ a simpler and quicker alternative to the current 387’s dynamic calibration, similar to Sencon’s 487 short can sensor. 

Technicians can use the client software to monitor the status of sensors and modules, make changes to sensor settings, and visualise sensor waveforms. The waveform plotter allows technicians to set up, capture, and display sensor waveform plots with signal markers. Waveforms can be layered on a single plot, which is useful for verifying consistency from stroke to stroke. Alternatively, in normal mode, the client software displays the most recent waveform with markers and a time/date stamp. 

The SCM387 incorporates some minor yet valuable enhancements to the 387 short-can sensors. It allows for drop-in replacement to existing installations, replacing BCM387 bodymaker control and Interface control modules. The client software offers technicians comprehensive diagnostic information to aid in troubleshooting problems.
