Indian can maker Hindustan Tin Works is the organiser of Canvironment Week, a global event that is designed to promote the sustainability of metal packaging.

The Spirit of Sustainability fashion show formed part of the Canvironment campaign and saw the students of Pearl Academy walking the catwalk wearing their fellow students designs.

Atit Bhatia, president of Canvironment Week and senior vice president of Hindustan Tin Works, said: “Fashion has a direct connection with the youth and this was a strong delivery vehicle for us to use and involve the youngsters in a sustainability campaign. We were thrilled to see the outcome and congratulate the students for an excellent demonstration of creativity, talent and passion.”

Sharad Mehra, CEO of Pearl Academy, added: “Awareness of current issues that have an impact on our future is key. The environment impacts the fashion industry like any other industry. When there is drought for instance, the price of cotton skyrockets. Environmental sustainability is the key to our future, and we want all our students to learn how to develop processes that will lead to businesses becoming completely sustainable. We commend HTW for taking this proactive step towards environmental sustainability and look forward to a long term synergy with HTW.”

At the event, the fashion students displayed 20 designs and the best two designs were awarded with prize money of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
