Ball reaches production milestone in Belgrade

ballLogo.webBall Packaging Europe’s plant in Serbia, Belgrade, produced more than one billion cans in 2012.

The can maker officially opened a new production line at its plant in the Belgrade district of Zemun, Serbia, in September 2011.

The line helped boost production from 750 million aluminium beverage cans to more than a billion in 2012. These are distributed to markets in the region and the European Union.

This year, Ball Packaging Europe is celebrating eight years in Serbia and has big plans for the future. It has already spent more than €100 million on the site.

“Our factory in Serbia is also a centre for the testing of new solutions in the can production process. We are currently working on and testing new methods for the production of thinner cans, that would spend less resources, save energy and contribute to sustainable growth,” says David Banjai, director of the Belgrade plant.

During last year, 1.3 billion cans were produced at the plant, with 85% exported to markets throughout the region.

This was an increase of 40% compared to 2011. In 2013 a further increase in production is expected.
