Every Can Counts UK returned to Download Festival this year (10-14 June) with a high-impact presence aimed at driving recycling and environmental awareness among festival-goers.

The ECC UK team brought a range of eye-catching activations, including the original Every Can Counts soapbox car and the new and improved Chitty Chitty Can Can, which took ECC’s UK chapter to third place in the Red Bull Soapbox Race in 2024. The two motorised soapboxes toured the festival site and drew plenty of attention. Also turning heads were the giant ‘DOWNLOAD’ can cages, which were completely filled by Sunday afternoon, according to ECC.

The ‘canny’ mascot, Canzee, was also on hand to meet fans, pose for photos and spark conversations about the importance of recycling. Over 25,000 empty drink cans were collected throughout the weekend – via voting bins, roaming ambassadors wearing can-shaped backpacks for recycling on the go, and in exchange for recycling rewards, including ‘Metal Never Dies’ t-shirts and Download key rings made from recycled aluminium.

More than 1,700 attendees took part in the recycling quiz, proving (once again) that Download fans are as passionate about sustainability as they are about music, said the non-profit.
