Aluminium Deutschland is repositioning itself strategically and in terms of personnel. The association will now represent its political interests independently in Berlin and significantly expand its presence in the capital. This repositioning is linked to a change at the association’s top management: Angelika El-Noshokaty will replace the current managing director, Marius Baader (effective 1 September 2025).

Aluminium Deutschland is the voice of the German aluminium industry and represents the interests of around 150 companies with more than 61,000 employees and an annual turnover of almost €25 billion. Aluminium is the most widely used metal worldwide after iron and steel.

“Aluminum is a fundamental key material for the economic transformation in Germany and Europe,” said Aluminium Deutschland president, Rob van Gils. “Nevertheless, our industry is facing unprecedented political challenges. It was therefore imperative that we represent the interests of this material and its companies directly and independently in Berlin in the future.”

The focus will be on key areas such as raw materials and circular economy policy, energy, environmental and sustainability policy, as well as trade and European policy.

The fundamental strategic repositioning of Aluminium Deutschland, approved by the member companies, also includes the relocation of the association’s headquarters from Düsseldorf to Berlin. Previously, the association had delegated parts of its representation to the German Metals Industry Association, from which it will leave at the end of 2025. Rob van Gils commented: “After more than a year of intensive discussions within our membership, it became clear: For the German aluminium industry, a focus on its own material, with its own strong voice in Berlin and Brussels, has become essential.”

The new start also brings with it personnel changes. Marius Baader, managing director of Aluminium Deutschland since 2019, is leaving the association at his own request to pursue new professional challenges. His successor, Angelika El-Noshokaty, will take over the association’s executive board.

El-Noshokaty has 15 years of experience in political advocacy. After working in the German Bundestag and providing political strategy consulting for industrial companies, she was most recently responsible for the German advocacy office in Berlin at Novelis, a leading manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminium products and the world’s largest aluminium recycler. In addition to her knowledge of the political landscape in Berlin and Brussels, El-Noshokaty also brings extensive experience in political communications and campaign design, and thanks to her most recent professional experience, she knows the challenges facing the aluminium industry inside-out.

Rob van Gils emphasised: “With Angelika El-Noshokaty, Aluminium Deutschland has gained an intimate knowledge of both the Berlin political scene and our material as its managing director. She has all the prerequisites to successfully lead our association’s business during the upcoming transformation and beyond. Marius Baader modernised and continuously developed the association during his term in office. For this, I thank him on behalf of our member companies.”
