On 17 November 2025, DTE announced the appointment of Dr Sohail Nazari as its new chief commercial officer (CCO).
Nazari’s appointment signals a new phase of growth for DTE as the company scales globally to meet accelerating demand for its Liquid-Phase Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LP-LIBS) technology, a breakthrough enabling real-time, in-furnace compositional analysis of molten aluminium. This expansion has seen a series of recent international partnerships with Arconic and Ramboll, each reinforcing DTE’s global footprint and ability to deliver integrated, end-to-end process optimisation solutions for the metals industry.
The appointment also comes at a critical time for the global aluminium sector. With EU producers calling for a 30% export levy on aluminium scrap to safeguard domestic recycling capacity and demand for low-carbon metal rising worldwide, producers face mounting pressure to do more with the material already in circulation. DTE’s LP-LIBS technology enables producers to make real-time decisions about melt chemistry, allowing for higher scrap utilisation, tighter quality control and reduced carbon footprint, key levers in achieving circularity and resilience under changing market conditions.
With more than 15 years of experience leading digitalisation and automation in industrial sectors, including automotive, mining and energy, Nazari joins DTE from ANDRITZ, where he served as global vice president and Head of the Automation & Digitalization Business Unit. At ANDRITZ, he transformed and expanded profitable business solutions across multiple sectors by helping customers enhance production performance and profitability through the adoption of advanced automation and digitalisation.
Nazari holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the University of British Columbia. He is an established industry leader with multiple technology launches, a patent in data centre energy optimisation and a strong record of building high-performance, international teams that accelerate digital transformation in industrial environments.
“We are delighted to welcome Sohail to DTE’s leadership team,” said Jakob Ásmundsson, CEO of DTE. “His deep expertise in industrial automation and proven success in building global digitalisation businesses come at exactly the right moment in DTE’s journey. As we expand our commercial operations and global partnerships, Sohail’s leadership will be instrumental in accelerating the adoption of our LP-LIBS technology across the aluminium value chain. We see enormous potential for our solutions to help producers enhance quality, safety and sustainability, while driving measurable gains in efficiency and profitability.”
“Fast, relevant and accurate data is the foundation of digital transformation,” said Sohail Nazari, chief commercial officer at DTE. “DTE’s real-time analysis technology is a breakthrough innovation that provides aluminium producers with immediate insight into melt chemistry previously beyond reach. This capability enables manufacturers to unlock new levels of efficiency, make faster and smarter decisions that increase throughput, enhance consistency and maximise scrap utilisation. I look forward to collaborating with DTE’s exceptional team to accelerate global growth and be part of our customers’ success stories by setting a new standard of productivity in the metals industry.”
Nazari will be based in Vancouver, Canada, reflecting DTE’s growing presence across Europe, North America and Asia. His appointment follows a period of strong technical validation and global interest in DTE’s LP-LIBS technology, which delivers sub-five-minute, fully automated compositional analysis of molten aluminium, a capability proven to enhance recycling, reduce waste and enable greater use of post-consumer scrap.
