The London Metal Exchange (LME) has announced two appointments to its senior management team.

Stuart Sloan and Catherine Lester have joined the LME as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Strategy, and Chief Financial Officer respectively.

Sloan will be responsible for much of the operation of the LME and will work with the senior management team in determining its future direction. He joins the LME from NYSE Euronext – now part of ICE – where he was part of the management team of the NYSE Liffe derivatives business for nearly 20 years. His experience includes strategic work on the establishment of an independent clearing function for NYSE Liffe, and recent work on the creation of a benchmark administration business.

Lester will be responsible for the oversight of all financial functions within the LME. She joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she was a Director in Assurance focusing on insurance and investment management clients, including a number of high- profile international and listed companies.

Garry Jones, Chief Executive of the LME, said: “I’m delighted to welcome both Stuart and Catherine to the LME. Stuart brings with him extensive knowledge and experience of markets and their infrastructure through his 20 years at the NYSE and is an excellent addition to our senior management team. Catherine adds substantial financial and management expertise to the LME senior team and will be a key member of the LME Executive Committee.”
