Ball unveils straw in a can

Beverage can manufacturer Ball Packaging Europe has revealed a new straw in a can that it will debut at drinktec 2013.

The show is considered a leading world fair for the beverage and liquid food industry and showcases of beverage cans and aluminium containers for special occasions.

Ball’s stand A1.302 will be showcasing the magic straw can and the classy aluminium bottle with the long-neck design.

The new can offers a special surprise effect, as the consumer opens it a straw pops out.

Decorable by laser technology, the straw offers additional space for brand presentation in the form of logos or promotional codes.

Initial consumer surveys carried out in Spain and the UK indicate that this specialised can offers important market potential, particularly among young consumers.

“The Magic Straw Can not only triggers this ‘wow’ effect,” explains Benoit Hirszowski, marketing director at Ball Packaging Europe.

“It also has a particularly small opening. That reduces the danger of contamination. The can-integral straw thus also promises enhanced product and consumer protection.”

A spokeswoman for Ball said they would not “disclose more technical details” such as how many can per minute could be made at this time when contacted by CanTech International.
