Following a record-breaking 2026 edition with more visitors, more exhibitors and more exhibition space, the upcoming edition of Metpack, the leading global trade fair for metal packaging, will take place from 12 to 15 June 2029, with a new hall layout. Metpack will occupy Exhibition Halls 5, 6, 7 and 8 at Messe Essen for the first time.
Over 80% of the stand space has already been booked, according to the organisers. “Metpack is the place where the entire international metal packaging industry comes together. The high rate of rebooking immediately following the last event, the strong international market penetration and the outstanding satisfaction ratings all demonstrate that Metpack in Essen is the industry’s key platform – focused, investment-driven and recognised worldwide,” said Oliver P Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen.
The modern, spacious glass foyer welcoming visitors to Halls 5, 6, 7 and 8 will serve as the representative main entrance and exit area to Metpack 2029. The light-filled halls offer ideal conditions for this demanding, highly specialised trade fair, featuring large-scale machinery, complex set-up and dismantling operations, and the movement of goods on an international scale.
“With the new hall layout, we are laying the foundations for further growth and giving Metpack the space it needs as the leading investment and technology trade fair for the metal packaging industry in Essen,” added Christina Kleinpaß, Metpack’s project manager.
The survey results from Metpack 2026 confirm the event’s high relevance to the industry: 89% of trade visitors regard Metpack as the industry’s meeting place, whilst 87% consider it a platform for innovation. There is also strong support amongst exhibitors: 83% attest to its positive image and reputation.
Metpack 2026 also impressed with its high level of international participation. 85.5% of the exhibiting companies surveyed came from abroad; among visitors, the figure was 81%. The decision-making authority of the trade visitors was also particularly strong: 88% of visitors have purchasing or procurement responsibilities. The average order value stood at around EU€750,000, once again exceeding the figure from the previous event. As a result, Metpack
stands not only for networking and a market overview, but above all for
concrete business opportunities in an industry ready to invest.
The event duration introduced for Metpack 2026 has proved its worth and will be retained following the very positive feedback. Metpack 2029 will once again take place from Tuesday to Friday. Messe Essen is thus opting for a compact, efficient schedule that meets the needs of international trade visitors and exhibiting companies.
The ‘Talk in a Can’ forum format, introduced in 2026, will also be continued and further developed. The format complements the exhibition with practical market insights, expert input, product innovations and networking opportunities, thereby reinforcing Metpack’s character as a focused working and innovation platform for the metal packaging industry.
