Can making or canmaking?

At the recent Latamcan conference in Guadalajara, Mexico, it came to my attention that there are two trains of thought on the way in which we refer to our industry.

Is it one word or two?

Personally, I would go for the latter. A can, as we know it, is a singular object and therefore should it not stand alone? Making – a much used noun referring to the act of a person or thing that makes – is also a word in itself.

It may seem trivial to bring this up in a blog posting, but at the very least it will give you something to think about.

For far too long it seems the camp has been divided and it’s time this publication came out in support for what we believe is correct.

So, I call upon all ‘can makers’ and those in the ‘can making’ world to come forward and express your views – preferably with some justification to boot.
