It’s where it all happens

Wolfgang Niemsch, chairman of the Metpack committee, welcomed in the 2017 edition of the show with a positive message of prosperity within the metal packaging sector. He argued that packaging needs to help solve the world’s problems, and general food waste needs to be a primary concern for all within the industry.

Since it’s first outing in 1992, 25 years on, Metpack as a trade event has grown in stature, and is unquestionably the primary trade event for the metal packaging industry. As a result, the event is the place to be for new product launches and important announcements.

Among the news this week has been the formal announcement that SLAC is in advanced talks concerning the acquisition of Intercan. Final conditions will be announced in due course, but after also recently acquiring Corima, the deal signifies more consolidation within the industry. There will be more to come on this story in the next few weeks.

Elsewhere, Litalsa and Sensory Analytics have signed a strategic agreement, which was formally announced yesterday (3 May).

It was a pleasure being on the judging panel for the Metpack Innovation Awards. For those of you who didn’t see the result yesterday, the winners were as follows:

  • Gold Award- PrintabLED UV-LED Curing Device
  • Silver Award- KBA-MetalPrint CS MetalCan
  • Bronze Award- Valspar valPure V-70

CanTech also had an announcement of our own with the news that there will be a 25th anniversary party at Asia CanTech. There will be a river cruise to celebrate the magazine’s silver anniversary in October. More details can be found on our stand in hall three.
