Gearing up for World Environment Day

Monday 5 June marks World Environment Day, and this year, the campaign is calling for global solutions to #BeatPlasticPollution. Of course, this is the opportune time to promote the circular benefits of metal packaging.

Not-for-profit organisation, Every Can Counts, is celebrating World Environment Day 2023 with its third International Recycling Tour, which sees its dedicated ambassadors embark on a mission across 16 countries with their on-the-go recycling backpacks, promoting the message ‘Drink cans recycle forever.’ The ambassadors will travel through bustling streets, urban parks, beaches and festivals.

The participating nations in the initiative include Austria, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain, and the UK.

“By coming together to celebrate World Environment Day and embracing the endless potential of aluminium recycling, we aim to inspire behaviour change and help reach 100 per cent can recycling in Europe and beyond. That’s why we are inviting everyone—consumers, local authorities, brands, and event organisers—to join forces and find better ways to recycle on-the-go, while having fun doing so,” commented David Van Heuverswyn, director of Every Can Counts Europe.

Do let us know if your company has any World Environment Day initiatives, campaigns or announcements and we’ll make sure to share them.

In related news, tomorrow I will be attending the Aluminium Federation’s (ALFED) EnvironmentAL Sustainability Strategy Day in London. The event is being held at BMA House, which boasts its own impressive sustainability considerations, including promoting a ‘clean air route’ from King’s Cross St Pancras station to the venue.

ALFED’s speaker programme will kick off with a keynote from Lord Rupert Redesdale which asks ‘How soon will companies win or lose business on the carbon content of their product?’ This, along with the rest of the presentations and panel sessions, will surely make for an enlightening day for all. Expect to hear more about this soon.
