Supporting the workforce

The 12th year of International Women in Engineering Day was celebrated on 23 June, with the theme being #TogetherWeEngineer. Being in this job has helped me to meet the good few women who are operating in engineering fields, but change is definitely still needed, with only a little above 16 per cent of women worldwide in these roles.

Education is key for encouraging the next generation of women engineers. I’m sure many of you who read this blog will not have been told or shown at school that engineering was a viable career for women. However, with training programmes and clearer pathways, progress is on the horizon. CanTech remains committed to sharing and championing these pathways, as well as the successes of women throughout the metal packaging value chain. Men in leadership roles should also be highlighting

Tomorrow I am heading to the Aluminium Federation’s (ALFED) House of Lords Lunch, which promises to be an enlightening afternoon of insights and networking. Expect to hear more about the UK Aluminium Alliance (UKAA) after this.
