Recognising the best in metal

In the October issue of CanTech International, we featured an in-depth look at the ‘next generation food can’ produced by Ardagh in conjunction with vegetable canner Bonduelle. Since going to print at the start of last month, word has reached us that the can has now been formally recognised for its unique properties, and has received MPMA ‘Best in Metal’ Supreme Gold Award 2013. Further details on the can, and the prize, can be found within this week’s newsletter.

Asia CanTech is now well underway, with day two nearing completion by the time this newsletter reaches your inbox; and I’m pleased to say that the event has proved a roaring success. With the best ratio of can makers to suppliers in the event’s history – and over 270 attendees, including at least 110 can makers – exhibitors and delegates are finding the conference extremely valuable.

A plethora of top-level keynote speakers delivered valuable insight into the current state of the can making industry on Tuesday, and a full write-up of the proceedings will be made available in the very near future.

Meanwhile, the Asia Can Awards Gala Dinner takes place tonight, and the winners of our annual can awards will be announced. Having been heavily involved in the judging process, I can assure you that we received many worthy submissions, and selecting the victors was no mean feat.

The dates for Asia CanTech 2014 have also been announced – make a note in your diary that next year’s conference is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 27-29 October. More details will soon be made available at www.asia-can.com
