In this month’s issue we take a look back at Asia CanTech 2013, which was held in October at the Marriot Hotel in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Keynote speaker Hiroshi Ueno, general manager of Universal Can, gave an insightful update on the aluminium bottle market in Japan and Asia, while Christof Frohs from Ibea spoke about in-line colour monitoring for two-piece cans and printed metal sheets.
Elsewhere, our publishing director Neil McRitchie spoke with Tan Kee Huak, COO of IMCP, who has been working in laminated cans for the past two and a half years.
Our usual craft beer update is also featured, along with the latest news and product updates from around the industry.
This month’s issue looks at the increasingly successful aerosol can, with a series of articles detailing its origins, latest developments, and a look at what lies ahead for this interesting category.
Elsewhere, we explore the marketing possibilities that a can has to offer, many of which are only just being realised for the first time. The look and appearance of the product has a huge impact on whether or not the customer commits to buy, but the importance of this is often overlooked.
In addition, we look at the benefits of using advanced alkaline cleaning technology for aluminium beverage cans.
This month’s issue features a look at how a German organisation is achieving greater levels of downgauging, details on the ‘next generation food can’, and a full Asia CanTech preview.
Also included is the first in a series of articles from Rexam – looking at the importance of seamer interchangeability – along with our usual round-up of news and views from across the globe.
Next month’s issue will focus on updates to the two-piece can, shaping and embossing, and aerosol trends.
This issue contains the annual Supplier Profile, the essential guide to equipment, materials, tools and services for the metal packaging industry – this year it is bigger and better than ever.
But there is also so much more to read! Mall/Herlan has unveiled high speed bottle necking and shaping machine in Italy, and in China, a high speed end making plant is staking claim to be the world’s large one site easy open end maker. Seaming and tooling are under the spotlight, we look at Ball’s first plant to reach zero waste to landfill, and find out what AkzoNobel are doing in R&D for packaging and coatings.
There’s a profile of the Brazilian can market plus all the usual news and comment.
Next month’s issue includes features on beading and necking technology, raw materials, and refurbishment.
This issue is packed with news, features, products and equipment.
It contains a four page contains review of Euro CanTech (see page 14) and looks at how the three-piece can market, in particular, is under attack from plastic alternatives (see page 34).
In the UK lager in a can is well established and the country out drinks its European neighbours with cans, but sales are, according to most recent statistics, starting to plateau. However the real ale market, or craft beer in the US, continues to grow year on year in Britain but it mostly sells its products through pubs or in bottles. In the US, canning is much more popular and a reasonably new phenomenon is the mobile canner (see page 22). Perhaps the UK’s craft brewers could soon be following suit?
The biggest hurdle for the can industry to clear is the wine market (see page 38). Some in that sector are still angry about the proliferation of screw caps over corks – let alone aluminium bottles and cans – and it’s another level of snobbery that needs to be overcome. Following that we’ve also got great articles on the aluminium bottle market (see page 26) and a look at a rather interesting cap maker from the US (see page 30).
Enjoy this joint summer issue, and don’t forget the next issue is the Supplier Profile edition.
The June issue of CanTech International features an exclusive look at how a British company dealt with water issues around the installation of a brand new can line in sub-Saharan Africa. You can also read about expansion work at Nampak, Africa’s largest packing business and how they’re converting steel lines to aluminium.
There is also all the usual news and features from around the world of cans covering, suppliers makers and fillers.
