Ball honoured by Coca-Cola

Ball Packaging Europe has been named as Coca-Cola Enterprises’ Supplier of the Year.

It is the third time the can maker has received the award, which recognises Ball as one of the outstanding suppliers that contributed most to the success of CCE in 2011. CCE’s chairman and CEO John Brock and European Group president Hubert Patricot presented the award to Ball as part of CCE’s third annual Supplier Sustainability Summit in London.

“Recognition as CCE’s Supplier of the Year demonstrates Ball’s commitment to quality product and consistent, superior customer service,” says Stephen Moorhouse, vice president and general manager, supply chain, CCE. “They are an outstanding partner and their efforts to develop, trial and implement the lightest possible 33cl can in the world is evidence of their thought leadership in addition to consistent performance.”

Thomas Haensch, vice president sales, marketing and innovation at Ball Packaging Europe, added: “It is a great honor for us to receive the Supplier of the Year Award from CCE. At the same time we see it as an obligation to continue driving quality, service, value and sustainability improvements within our organisation. It is Ball’s strategy to focus all our efforts on creating satisfied customers.”

The award recognises the achievements of CCE’s suppliers in four categories:

• Quality

• Service

• Value

• Corporate responsibility and sustainability

Ball was able to improve in all four categories. CCE particularly acknowledged that Ball has a strong track record of consistently understanding and delivering against the needs of CCE. In 2011 Ball delivered a high-volume supply performance including complex designs and packaging expectations. In addition, Ball is an industry leader in lightweighting advances of cans and can ends and is currently working in partnership with CCE to develop, trial and implement the lightest possible 33cl can in the world.

The summit brought together approximately 100 suppliers of CCE to focus on the company’s ambitious target of reducing the carbon footprint of its drinks by a third. As part of its ‘Carbon Challenge,’ all CCE suppliers will implement a carbon measurement and management plan.
